When Speed and I first got married, we were able to spend our anniversary weekends at a few amazing B&Bs, inns and resorts. Although we haven't done one of these anniversary getaways in years, I wanted to share our favorite at the Kenwood Inn & Spa in honor of our 15-year anniversary (20 years together!) this Sunday.
When Is Our Anniversary?
When someone asks me and Speed, “When did you guys get married?”, Speed inevitable whips his head over to me and then waits expectantly for me to answer… I can almost hear his foot tapping on the floor right now! He knows I have to spend 5.1249308490 seconds doing the math in my head because for some reason, I keep forgetting the date!
The CORRECT date is October 7, 2003. What I WANT to say is October 8, 2003. Why?! Probably because we eloped in Vegas and got married in a drive-thru chapel, so our big, gorgeous wedding never happened (Max happened instead…so much better!). Speed looooooves the fact that HE’S the one who remembers, probably because a guy ~finally~ gets it right and he’s THAT guy. Men, he does you proud. *slow clap*
How Do We Celebrate Our Anniversary?
What I ~do~ know and get right every time is that we’ve been together forever, especially compared to the 40-50% of marriages in the U.S. that end in divorce. So the fact that we’ve stayed true to the “for better or for worse, in sickness and in health” is definitely something worth celebrating, wouldn’t you agree?!
To honor our marriage, we used to go away together for two nights to a cute B&B or small inn, in a beautiful little town where we could do some exploring, and some relaxing, and enjoy lots and lots of yummy food and wine. In 2006, the year Max was born, we decided to road-trip it to Sonoma… and discovered a little piece of heaven!
Most Romantic Hotel in Sonoma
Raise your hand if you love wine. Raise your other hand if you love romance. Now say “Hallelujah!” because I have the perfect spot for you! Say hello to the Kenwood Inn & Spa, ladies and gents! This place is unforgettable…12 years later and it’s still my favorite of all time. I mean, look how GORGEOUS this place is!
The first thing I have to say about Kenwood Inn & Spa is that the location is surprising. It’s actually on the side of the Sonoma Highway, which threw me off when we first arrived. I actually thought that maybe we were at the wrong address, and then almost got upset because I thought our weekend was going to be ruined by road noise. Oh, how naive was my 28-year old self. As soon as we walked in, we were in another fairy-tale world!
The restaurant was also very good. We ate there for breakfast on our last day, and had a meal to remember! It was salmon, poached egg, asparagus & potatoes. We’ve tried to make it at home, to no avail. It will remain one of the best meals we’ve ever had that I will never forget.
We didn’t eat dinner at the Kenwood Inn & Spa’s, so I can’t say whether it was good or not, but I imagine it was delicious based on the one amazing meal we had for breakfast!
In The Room
Our room at the Kenwood Inn & Spa was just as nice as the outdoor spaces, too! I believe we booked a Kenwood King and it was such a large, yet cozy room. Balcony? Check. Fireplace? Check. Sumptious linens with featherbed? Check. They even left us some bubbly! Can you tell how happy I am!?
As you can see, the Kenwood Inn & Spa is perfect if you want to get away from it all, and spend some QT with your cutie! We have so many great memories of our time there… maybe one day we’ll be lucky enough to go back and enjoy it all over again!
TIPS: Definitely book a spa treatment and eat at the inn’s restaurant for a Wine Country Breakfast! We had such a great meal (a fancy concoction of salmon, mashed potatoes and asparagus) that we’ve modified it to make it at home for years now. And although its tempting to hole up in this amazing place, go out and explore the Sonoma country! We did the Wine Train, which will be a future blog post…so fun!!!

I love that you are my person and I am yours, that whatever door we come to, we will open it together.
